Photographing waves underwater is a truly magical experience. The way the light dances through the water, illuminating the intricate details of each wave as it crashes and tumbles are simply breathtaking. As a photographer, capturing these moments can be challenging but the reward is a stunning image that captures the essence of the ocean and its power.

Underwater wave photography offers a unique perspective on the natural world and can transport viewers to a peaceful, awe-inspiring world beneath the surface. Underwater vortex waves, and vortex explosions, are circular currents of water that rotate just as the wave is ready to break.

I was lucky enough to be in the right spot under a 7-8ft wave to capture this side image of the breaking tide. The force of the vortex pushed down on my body as I was trying to capture this image.
